They’re ADHD Symptoms not Character Flaws or Weaknesses

What's the natural consequences of going your whole life trying to do things the way everyone else does but not being able to?

You believe that there's something wrong with you.

  • You try to do the dishes or fold laundry but can't you're lazy.

  • You finally do the dishes every day for a week, but then one day they pile up and get crusty in the sink = you're gross.

  • You fill in your planner but forget to look at it or eventually get bored with it = you're flaky.

  • You remember to do a task but on your way to do it, you remember another task and do that one instead = you're an absentminded idiot.

  • You start a new hobby and invest money into it without ever really do much with it = you're wasteful.

  • You forget to text your friend back until 3 days later = you're a bad friend.

  • You show up late to your appointments = you're rude.

  • You run into desk corners, snag your purse on the door knob, and drop things while you cook = you're clumsy.

  • You have four bottles of the same salad dressing in your fridge because you forgot that the others existed = wasteful.

  • You get emotional during a conversation = you're too sensitive.

  • You hyper focus on something and your child interrupts to ask for something, but you go right  back to hyper focusing = you're a bad mom.

And after a life time of believing these things, you start to believe you're a lost cause and that you'll always be broken and wrong.

 BUT HERE'S THE TRUTH…

What society, and even maybe the people that are supposed to love you, have told you are flaws and weaknesses, are actually symptoms.

They're signs and indicators. They're simply bits of information that have the potential to lead you to solutions and understanding when you change the lens through which you see them.

You're not lazy, flaky, rude, neglectful, scattered, wasteful, gross, or incapable.

But you do experience hyper focus, distraction, forgetfulness, emotional sensitivity, impulsivity, changes in mood, lack of spacial awareness, time blindness, disorganized thinking, a lack of access to the right amounts of dopamine and other regulating hormones and chemicals, and/or hyperawareness of your environment.

When you become the witness of your symptoms instead of adopting them as part of your very being and personality, you can observe the way they show up in your life.

Looking through the lens of flaws and weaknesses = Shame, defeat, hopelessness, lack of confidence, sadness, anxiety, frustration, and a lack of self trust which then = stuckness, overwhelm and burn out.

Looking through the lens of symptoms = Material to work with to create a life structure that works for your brain, body, and nervous system.

You're an intelligent, kind, gifted, passionate, hard working, sensitive, funny, create human being. That's what you are.
